The Sleepy Hollow In October Cheat Sheet
October in Sleepy Hollow is two small river villages hosting the most famous ghost story in America. Plan accordingly.
Every October, thousands of people take the train up the Hudson to find the Headless Horseman. Many of them arrive to sold-out signs, circle Continental Street looking for parking, and stand in line for lunch at 2:30 on a Saturday. That doesn’t have to be you.
The big problem is that almost nothing sells at the door anymore. The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze is advance-only. So is Irving’s ‘Legend’. So are the cemetery lantern tours. The best events sell out weeks before Halloween, and the cheapest Blaze tickets go to people who know which nights to book.
The calendar matters just as much. Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026, and so does the Tarrytown Halloween Parade a week earlier. That’s two walls, not one. Meanwhile, Philipsburg Manor’s actual 1750 historic tour runs only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in October, so weekend visitors miss it entirely.
The rules have changed, too. Horseman’s Hollow is gone, Kykuit tours are paused for the year, and Irving’s ‘Legend’ moved from the Old Dutch Church to Sunnyside. A lot of what’s online is out of date.
This cheat sheet fixes all of that in six pages. It has no fluff and no history lecture, just what you need open on your phone.
What’s Inside
✔ The October Calendar, Honestly. October 2026 week by week, from “Building” to “The Wall,” plus the weather, sunset times, and exactly what to pack.
✔ What to Book, and Exactly When. Every major event with its 2026 price and booking rules, listed in the order they sell out.
✔ Getting In, Parade Night & Halloween. Which train station to use, event parking addresses, the parade-day plan, and an hour-by-hour Halloween-night timeline.
✔ One Perfect Weekday, Hour by Hour. A timed plan from morning coffee to a lantern tour, with a backup for every stop and a Skip This / Do This Instead list.
✔ The Real Legend Locations. Seven real places from the story with addresses, plus the one real film location most visitors walk right past.
The Two Pages That Save Your Trip
The booking page. ‘Legend’ has the fewest seats, the Blaze has a safety-net ticket most people don’t know about, and the lantern tours never sell at the gate. This page puts every event in the order to book it, so you aren’t refreshing ticket pages the week before Halloween.
The parade and Halloween-night page. Road closures, the lots to use, when to be on the train, and what’s open on Halloween night. Irving’s ‘Legend’, the Blaze and the lantern tours are in three different towns, and this page helps you pick the one evening plan that works.
