11 Can’t Miss Shops in Bar Harbor, Maine

Bar Harbor is one of those coastal towns that is exactly what you imagine a coastal town in Maine to be. I’ve been to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park many times in the 7 years that I called New England home. In 2019, I visited 4 times, so at this point, I’ve got some personal favorite shops and know the best places to eat and drink in town. So what are the 8 Shops You Can’t-Miss In Bar Harbor, Maine?

Keep in mind that many of these shops and restaurants are only open seasonally as Bar Harbor pretty much closes up shop at the end of tourist season. But there are a few that are open year-round.

Bar Harbor, Maine, is a picturesque coastal town with harbor views, beautiful BNBs, and all the lobster you can handle. There are so many charming shops downtown that you can find anything you are looking for. It’s a great place for dog owners. Some of the shops are even dog friendly, most leave water bowls outside their shops. I’ve even seen a pet tortuous in its own stroller walking the streets downtown.

11 Can’t-Miss SHOPS In Bar Harbor, Maine

11. Bark Harbor –

  • Where: 150 Main Street #3, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Daily 10 am – 5 pm

We LOVE Bark Harbor. And by “we,” I mean Loki & Freya really love the treats from Bark Harbor. Their favorites are bacon, cheese, and pumpkin-flavored treats. You won’t only find treats here, though, Bar Harbor also offers an assortment of toys, care items, clothes, and collars/leashes. It’s the perfect shop to visit if you are a dog lover like me!

10. Cool As A Moose –

  • Where: 118 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Daily 9 am – 11 pm
  • Find More Here

While this is one of the more touristy shops in town, they do have some really cute stuff. And who doesn’t want to be cool as a moose while they are visiting Maine? They also offer a nice designer sunglass selection, Ray Ban and Oakleys included.

9. Spruce & Gussy

  • Where: 12 Mt Desert Street, Set 3, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Daily 10 am – 10 pm
  • Find More Here

Spruce & Gussy is a truly charming shop offering a carefully curated selection of home and personal accessories with a major emphasis on goods produced by small US and fair trade companies. They value handmade items, so if you are looking for something unique, this is the place for you.

8. In The Woods –

  • Where: 160 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Daily 10 am – 9:30 pm
  • Find More Here

You won’t find anything else quite like In The Woods in Bar Harbor. This truly is such a cool shop! There are so many beautiful hand-carved wooden items here. Bonus: The wood is responsibly sourced. In fact, all of their products are made from dead wood removed from the sanctuaries in order to fertilize the land and help promote new growth. I haven’t bought anything yet, but I always love to browse. Some day soon, I’ll make a purchase.

7. Sherman’s Books & Stationary –

  • Where: 56 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Daily 9 am – 9 pm
  • Find More Here

The oldest bookstores in coastal Maine belong to the Sherman’s, so it’s no wonder that this shop is special. I always end up stopping at Sherman’s on any trip to Bar Harbor. Not only is the bookstore amazing, but the other side of the stop is great as well. It’s well-curated with gifts, housewares, and a few souvenirs. I love the wind chimes and the Bar Harbor/Acadia signs.

6. A Little Mad –

  • Where: 15 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Thurs – Mon: 10 m – 5 pm, Tues – Wed: Closed
  • Find Out More Here

If you love handmade and eclectic, then A Little Mad is the shop for you! While this charmer isn’t on Main Street, it is one of my absolute favorites. This shop is filled with handmade whimsical items. They feature over 100 different artists and vendors. If you like to buy unique gifts for people (or yourself) when you travel, then you won’t want to miss this place.

5. The Acadia Country Store –

  • Where: 128 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Sun – Thurs: 9 am – 9 pm, Fri – Sat: 9 am – 10 pm
  • Find Out More Here

You can’t go to Bar Harbor without visiting The Acadia Country Store. It’s got everything blueberry you can possibly think of! haha. Need a blueberry candy bar, or some blueberry soap, or perhaps a blueberry soda (100% recommend) they’ve got you covered! Don’t forget to try the homemade fudge, it’s so freakin’ good!

4. The Acadia Shop –

  • Where: 85 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Daily 9:30 – 8 pm
  • Find Out More Here

It’s no wonder these shops are back to back on the list, they are owned by the same group of owners. They’ve been locally owned and operated for the last 84 years and know what they are doing. This shop has a little something for everyone. The 1st floor features soaps, clothing, housewares, pottery, books, local food, and snacks. While the 2nd-floor features Maine-crafted gifts like rope mats, buoys (I bought one of these in 2019), art, photography, prints, cards, and kitchenware.

3. My Darling Maine –

  • 19 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Currently, the shop is open by appt only but that could be changing soon
  • To make an appt call (207) 801-9346
  • Find More Here

My Darling Maine isn’t just another touristy gift shop, here, you will find interesting keepsakes that were most likely made in Maine. What you’ll find in My Darling Maine are gifts with a purpose, many with a unique twist and a message from a local artist. You can tell that there is a lot of thought put into each item this boutique carries, and that’s what makes this one of my favorite shops in Bar Harbor.

2. Native Arts Gallery –

  • Where: 99 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Find Out More Here

The Native Arts Gallery is a unique family-owned and operated store that has been bringing southwestern Native American jewelry to Bar Harbor for 20 years. I love this place! I stop every time I’m in Bar Harbor. I’ve bought earrings and a necklace here in the past and love them. They offer sterling silver jewelry in Navajo, Zuni, and Hopi designs and an assortment of handmade crafts. They are open from early May to mid-October.

1. Window Panes –

  • Where: 166 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Daily 10 am – 5 pm, Closed Monday
  • Find Out More Here

Window Panes wasn’t a shop I was looking for, but I stumbled on to this shop when I stayed at the Ivy Manor Inn. They offer fun and functional items for your home. I bought a Gardenia perfume here (I collect perfumes from my travels) and a few small John Muir and National Park books. It’s also a great place to window shop and to get home decor inspiration.

Bonus Bar Harbor Restaurant Guide

You won’t find Bar Harbor lacking in restaurant and food options. With so many choices, it can be hard to choose, but don’t worry, this Bar Harbor Restaurant Guide is here to help!

Bar Harbor has so many options when it comes to ice cream! It’s hard to pick a favorite. Some of these options may not be open in 2020 or may only be open for takeout.

Best Ice Cream In Town:

Jordon Pond Ice Cream and Fudge –

  • Where: 45 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Mon – Thurs: 11 am – 9 pm, Fri – Sat: 11 am – 10 pm
  • Find Out More Here

Jordon Pond ice cream makes its own ice cream, and you can tell. Service is quick and friendly, and the flavors are really on point. Try the blueberry, I mean, it’s Maine. You’ve gotta try the blueberry!

Best Ice Cream Overall:

Udder Heaven Ice Cream Retreat –

  • Where: 369, ME-3, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Opening May 21, 2021
  • Find Out More Here

Udder Heaven was close to my hotel on my last trip to Acadia/Bar Harbor. I actually went there for “dinner” the night that I arrived. Yep, ice cream for dinner! Why not? They have sundaes, crepes, pastries, milkshakes, sorbet, and of course, amazing ice cream.  The service is friendly and quick, and the prices aren’t bad either.

Best Sorbet:

Ben and Bill’s Chocolate Emporium –

  • Where: 66 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Mon-Sat: 9 am – 10 pm, Sun: 10 am – 10 pm
  • Find Out More Here

Not only does Ben and Bills have excellent mango sorbet, but they also offer lobster ice cream. Yep, you read that right, lobster ice cream. And yes, everyone I’ve ever heard read the sign makes the same face that you made when you read LOBSTER ice cream. Haha, I haven’t tried it, but it definitely piqued my interest.

Best Lobster Roll:

Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound –

  • Where: 465 Seawall Road, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679
  • Opens for the season at the end of May
  • Hours: Daily 10 am – 8:30 pm
  • Find Out More Here

If you’ve read my Best Lobster Rolls In Maine, you know I absolutely love this place. This is by far my favorite lobster roll in Maine and the best one I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot of lobster rolls). It was explained to me that there was a recent study done that found that lobsters do actually feel pain. So, when they are stressed before they die, the meat will end up being chewy. Charlotte’s has figured out how to humanely turn their lobsters into lobster rolls, and you can tell a HUGE difference. You can get these rolls 2 ways; I highly suggest you try it with butter!

Best Coffee/Quick Breakfast:

Coffee Hound Coffee Bar –

  • Where: 27 Main Street B, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • Hours: Daily 7:30 am – 5:30 pm
  • Find More Here

Coffee Hound is a Maine Craft Coffee Roaster that focuses on small farm grown – small batch-roasted coffees. I stop here on every single visit to Acadia at least once, but if I can swing it, I stop every single morning. Highly recommend the Nutella crepe and the egg and cheese sandwich. And I also love the Maple, but the chai tea latte is excellent too.

Other Places To Check Out:

Atlantic Brewing Company
  • 15 Knox Road, Bar Harbor, ME 04609

They offer a great selection of beer, and their seasonal offerings sound amazing! I love a good blueberry ale and can’t wait to try it!!

Jordon Pond House
  • 2928 Park Loop Rd, Seal Harbor, ME 04675

Amazing afternoon tea and popovers. What’s not to love? Plus, during the summer months, it’s dog-friendly if you sit outside.

Beal’s Lobster Pier
  • 182 Clark Point Rd, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679, Hours: Daily 9 am – 4 pm

Beal’s has 5 different lobster rolls on their menu, including a spicy buffalo, intriguing.

If hoodoos had a VIP lounge, welcome to the one at If hoodoos had a VIP lounge, welcome to the one at Bryce Canyon National Park’s Wall Street!

There’s something about Bryce Canyon that doesn’t feel real, it’s like Mother Nature had an extra cup of coffee and decided to show off. Hoodoos stacked like coral castles, light spilling through red rock cathedrals, and that one chipmunk who’s clearly the mayor of the trail. Bryce is hands down my favorite Utah National Park.

I started down the Navajo Loop just after sunrise and somehow had the canyon almost to myself - the quiet only broken by the crunch of boots and the occasional “is this even real life?” moment.

By the time I connected to the Queens Garden Trail, the world had gone from golden glow to full technicolor, and I was convinced this place might not be real.

Save this for your Bryce Canyon bucket list, and if you’ve hiked Wall Street, tell me: were you team “stop every five feet for photos” or “pretend you’re in an Indiana Jones movie and power through”?

Salem, Massachusetts – where spooky meets nostal Salem, Massachusetts – where spooky meets nostalgic ✨

If you grew up watching Hocus Pocus, you already know the Sanderson Sisters have a chokehold on Halloween vibes. But did you know most of the movie wasn’t even filmed in Salem? 😱

I’ve been obsessed with Hocus Pocus since 1993 (when 7-year-old me was crushing on Max Dennison), so naturally I had to hunt down every filming location in real life.

From Max & Dani’s house to the Town Hall where Winnie belts “I Put a Spell on You,” this self-guided tour is the ultimate witchy walk down memory lane.

It’s hard to put into words just how special thi It’s hard to put into words just how special this Maine summer was. From foggy paddles along rocky shores to fiery sunsets over Bar Harbor, this place has a way of slowing you down and pulling you in.

We chased lighthouses, watched puffins and seals pop up from the waves, devoured more lobster rolls than we’re willing to admit, and even found secret hidden spots in the middle of one of the busiest national parks in the country.

And the best part? We got to do it all with the dogs by our side, because Acadia and Bar Harbor are as dog-friendly as they are beautiful. 🐾🌊

We may be packing up for the next adventure, but something tells me Maine isn’t done with us yet. 💙

👉 Save this for your future summer plans -
because trust me, Maine is worth every second.
Where the day ends and the light lingers - Schoodi Where the day ends and the light lingers - Schoodic style 🫶

There’s something quietly spectacular about sunset on the Schoodic Peninsula - less crowds, no rush, just the sound of waves and the sky catching fire as the sun dips below the horizon. The rocks glow gold, the water softens into glass, and time seems to slow to the pace of the tide.

This side of Acadia often gets overlooked, but that’s exactly why it’s so special. It’s wilder, quieter, and the perfect place to end a Maine day with salty hair and a happy heart.

✨ Pro tip: Bring a picnic and stay past sunset - the twilight colors linger longer than you think, and they’re pure magic.
🍂 5 Can’t Miss Things To Do in Shenandoah Nat 🍂 5 Can’t Miss Things To Do in Shenandoah National Park This Fall (even after peak foliage)

There’s a moment in Shenandoah when the light hits the ridges just right…and time stands still. Shenandoah National Park is where the Blue Ridge Mountains put on their most dramatic show - fiery ridgelines, golden valleys, and trails that look like they were designed for leaf-peeping strolls.

Here’s how to make the most of your visit:

🌄 1. Catch a sunrise on Skyline Drive
There’s nothing like watching the first light spill across a blaze of fall color. Try Tunnel Parking, Buck Hollow, Hazel Mountain, or Thorofare Mountain overlooks for that golden-hour magic.

🚗 2. Drive all 105 miles of Skyline Drive
This iconic road is the park. It runs the length of Shenandoah, serving up sweeping overlooks, picnic spots, and 72 chances to pull over and say “wow.”

🥾 3. Hit the trails
From short waterfall walks to summit climbs, Shenandoah is a hiker’s dream. Go classic with Dark Hollow Falls or Old Rag, or keep it dog-friendly with Hawksbill Summit, Lewis Falls, or Saddleback Mountain.

🐻 4. Watch for wildlife
Black bears and deer are most active at dawn and dusk this time of year - just keep a respectful distance (150 ft for bears, 75 ft for most other animals).

📸 5. Stop at as many overlooks as possible
With 72 overlooks along Skyline Drive, each one feels like its own postcard. Loft Mountain, Big Meadows, and Stony Man are standouts, and you will end up pulling over way more than you planned.

✨ Pro tip: Enter through a southern entrance (Swift Run or Rockfish Gap) to skip the worst of the traffic, and bring a picnic to enjoy at one of the many scenic pull-offs.

👉 Save this for your fall road trip plans and tell me in the comments: which one would you do first?
