9 Tips For Adults Only Trip to Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter allows all of us to leave adulting behind for a few days and act like a kid again! Just imagine the smell of fresh parchment, the new quills, and of course, all of those cool little nooks and crannies that Hogwarts has to offer. And, yes, you absolutely NEED these 9 tips for an adults only trip to Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was at the top of my places to visit list since it opened in 2010. Also, how has it been 22 years since J.K. Rowling took us to Hogwarts for the first time? If you can’t tell, I’m a huge Potter nerd and have been to the Warner Brother’s Studio Tour in London. I’ve also visited a lot of filming locations in the U.K. Proud Hufflepuff (with some Gryffindor tendencies) here!

It is 100% possible to have a kickass adult only trip to Universal and specifically the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It’s interesting how many adults you will see with no kids in Wizarding World. I think it’s because most of us grew up reading the books and watching the Potter films. It’s nostalgia and it’s amazing to see it come to life no matter what age you are! I can’t wait to go back.

2021 Information:

Here are some of the 2021 rules, regulations, and suggestions:

• In accordance with CDC guidelines, face coverings are no longer required for fully vaccinated guests, indoors or outdoors. While they do not require proof of vaccination, they do expect those who are not fully vaccinated to wear face coverings while indoors. 9 Tips For An Adult ONLY Trip To Wizarding World of Harry Potter

1. Pay Attention To The Details

I can’t imagine what it’s like for kids who get to visit Wizarding World of Harry Potter. My first visit was at 28 years old and had me mesmerized by every tiny detail. No matter your age you will FEEL like you are inside of the pages of one of J.K. Rowling’s books. There is so much to take in, so, don’t forget to pay attention to those small details. 

2. You NEED Park To Park Passes

Trust me, you NEED these! Make sure to get the park to park passes because Wizarding World is actually in two separate parks.

At Universal Studios you will find Wizarding Worlds Diagon Alley. This is where you can experience Escape From Gringotts (I highly recommend), dine in the Leaky Cauldron (a MUST), and check out the fire breathing dragon atop Gringotts!

Lucky for you muggles you can take the Hogwarts Express both ways to travel between parks. Make sure to take it both ways because it’s a little different in each direction. 

At Universal Islands Of Adventure, you can visit Hogwarts Castle itself and make sure to check out Hogsmeade Village. Don’t skip the Forbidden Journey – it’s the coolest ride I’ve ever been on! Have dinner or a drink at the Three Broomsticks, just make sure you don’t get a foam mustache from your butterbeer (ahem Hermione).

3. Get Into It & Be A Kid Again

Universal Orlando and Wizarding World will make you feel like a kid again. Some of us tear up when we walk into Diagon Alley and/or Hogsmeade. Some play it cool but either way, it will 100% make you feel like a kid again and with the stresses of everyday life, we all need that! 

4. Drink Like A Wizard

Diagon Alley –

You may not know this, but you can totally drink at Wizarding World! In fact, there are several options for pubs. Visit The Fountain of Fair Fortune or The Hopping Pot to try exclusive Diagon Alley drinks like Fishy Green Ale or Wizards Brew. The Leaky Cauldron also offers a few of the same suds for your dining experience.

Hogsmeade –

Visit the Hog’s Head where there is something for everyone. They offer Hogshead Brew, domestic and imported beers, as well as, mixed drinks. Try the Fire Whiskey, trust me, you will love it! In Hogsmeade, the Three Broomsticks also offers alcoholic beverages such as the Hog’s Head Brew and Dragon Scale. 

I vote that both or either location need an alcoholic butter beer option! Especially the frozen version.

5. Eat At Leaky Cauldron Or Three Broomsticks

I prefer the Leaky Cauldron but I’ve eaten at both. It’s just an experience that you have to have when visiting Wizarding World. I loved the full English Breakfast, the fish and chips, bangers and mash, and of course the sticky toffee pudding. At the Three Broomsticks, the turkey leg was great!

6. Skip Some Of The Rides

You can skip the rides and still have a great time at Wizarding World. I chose to ride Hogmeads Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Diagon Alley’s Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts but that was it. If you are going to ride anything at Wizarding World I highly recommend one of those two. They also have the coolest waiting areas.

Tip: Forbidden Journey can really mess with your equilibrium as an adult. It did nothing to me but did screw up some of the others in my party.

7. Skip The Interactive Wands

While there is something to be said for the awesomeness of the interactive wands they are more for kids than anyone else. They are really pricey and you honestly can’t do anything but display them outside of the park. For about half the price you can buy a regular wand for your bookshelf display (like I did!). Also, all of the interactive wand areas tend to have lines of kids waiting to use them. So unless you really have your heart set on it, I would skip it. 

8. Skip The Ollivander’s Show

The lines for Ollivander’s show are always insanely long and unless you feel like you absolutely can’t miss it, it’s not really worth the wait for adults. Of course, Mr. Ollivander usually chooses a kid from the crowd and lets the wand choose the wizard. If it’s an adult only trip, then just go into the actual shop and check out all of the wands and other merchandise. 

9. Don’t Skip The Sweets

Honeydukes is THE place to go for sweets. It is a marvelous sweets shop where you can get the famed chocolate frog, Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans, and Fizzing Whizbees. Don’t forget to try a cauldron cake, pumpkin pasty, or butterbeer fudge.      

Bonus 9 3/4. Stay Until Closing

If you are staying on property stay until Wizarding World closes. Most families head back to their hotels between 5-7 pm. But the parks don’t close until 8 and generally, the park employees will let you linger until 9ish. It’s a pretty cool experience.

I recommend doing Hogsmeade at night because it’s way less packed and it’s pretty cool to see Hogwarts all lit up (I haven’t been since they added the light displays at night so this may have changed). Diagon Alley tends to be busy until closing. 

Wizarding World is for everyone and it was 100% the highlight of my trip to Universal! You can have so much fun on an adults only trip! Do yourself a favor and go be a kid again!
